What to keep ready
Most records are fetched at the source once you enter a PAN, so you only upload what can’t be fetched. For a proprietor it usually takes about 6 to 8 minutes.
For you, the person
- Your own email (not a shared office inbox) and your mobile number.
- Your own PAN. Not the business PAN, unless you are a proprietor.
- One way to verify your ID: DigiLocker, Aadhaar e-sign, or a photo ID such as a driving licence, passport or voter ID.
- Aadhaar is never required. If you use it, only a masked number is kept and an Aadhaar copy is never shared.
For the business, by type
Proprietorship
- Your PAN card (it is also the business PAN).
- Proof of business: the GST certificate, or else Udyam, or else a shop licence or tourism approval.
- Bank proof (a cancelled cheque or statement) for the account in the business name, plus a ₹1 test payment that comes back to you.
- An e-signed declaration at the end.
Partnership firm
- The firm’s PAN.
- GST certificate, if registered.
- The partnership deed.
- Bank proof and the ₹1 check.
- Each partner verifies their own ID.
LLP
- The LLP’s PAN.
- GST certificate, if registered.
- The incorporation certificate and the LLP agreement.
- Bank proof and the ₹1 check.
Private limited company
- The company’s PAN.
- GST certificate, if registered.
- The incorporation certificate.
- A board resolution or authorisation letter if the person adding the business is not a director.
- Bank proof and the ₹1 check.
HUF or trust
- The HUF’s or trust’s PAN.
- The HUF declaration or trust deed.
- GST certificate, if registered.
- Bank proof and the ₹1 check.
How documents are checked
- Each number you enter is matched three ways: what you typed, the record at the source, and the document you upload.
- If they agree, it’s done. If not, for example a wrong number, a cancelled GST or an edited certificate, you are told exactly which item to fix.
- An upload alone never completes a step. It has to match the record, or be reviewed by a person where no record exists, such as a deed.
